The Beginner Class is an introduction to Irish dance. We
offer a strong technical program designed for the beginner student.
Starting at age three we begin students in soft shoe learning
dances such as the reel, jig and slip jig. Dances are performed to
traditional Irish music in a professional environment. Students
learn and develop a keen awareness of timing, co-ordination and
technique in a fun-filled hour.
In the Beginner Class there is a continual progression from
soft shoes to hard shoes and as the training evolves so too will
the class time needed. Students learn basic rhythm as well as
traditional treble jigs and hornpipes.
Students five and older partcipate in two classes per week as
part of the program (on Mondays and Wednesdays). Students
five and under attend one class per week (on Wednesdays).
- Mondays: 5:00pm-6:00pm
- Wednesdays: 5:00pm-6:00pm
The Junior Class is open to students who have progressed from
beginner to higher levels of competitive dance and those students
entering the Feis (competition) scene. Here, in the Junior Class,
the student receives 1.5 hours of specialized dance training with
Monday classes being devoted to hard shoe and Wednesdays
to soft shoe. Progression of steps and ability is evident and
a personal style and confidence develops.
The Junior Class students attend two classes per week. A third
class on Fridays is mandatory for those dancers in the
Preliminary or Championship level.
- Mondays: 6:00pm-7:30pm
- Wednesdays: 6:00pm-7:30pm
- Thursdays: 6:00pm-8:00pm
In the advanced class the student receives serious dance training
with a professional disciplined attitude concentrating on both hard
and soft shoe. The advanced class is open to students who have
advanced into high levels of competition who require strong
emphasis on technical skill, style and performance. Here, in the
Advanced Class, the student receives concentrated dance training
with Mondays focusing on hard shoe and Wednesdays on soft
shoe. The students are able to develop poise and self-confidence
through this highly technical art form. Students in the Advanced
Class attend three lessons a week as part of the program.
- Mondays: 7:00pm-8:30pm
- Wednesdays: 7:00pm-8:30pm
- Thursdays: 7:00pm-9:00pm
Private or semi-private (two dancers) lessons can be arranged with
the teachers throughout the year. These classes allow for
personalized attention and individual corrections to suit the needs
of the student. These classes are highly beneficial to any dancer
who wants to excel and polish material.
We offer adult lessons in
sessions throughout the year. Please contact us to get
further information about our next session.
Figure dancing is when students perform
in groups according to age and level of experience. Figure dancers
learn co-operation, specific arm movements and timing as well as
the execution of steps. Teams at the Doyle Academy perform 4-Hand
and 8-Hand figure dances in preparation for National and
International competitions. It is a wonderful opportunity for
students to work together as a school. We offer these classes in
sessions throughout the year.
